Brenda and Ryan
A week ago I arrived in NY for Brenda and Ryan’s Bronx Zoo wedding. I did my best to prepare for it by eating pizza and walking briskly without making eye contact. That came in handy because the morning of the wedding the bridal party walked from the Gansevoort Park Ave to Madison Square Park where we met up with Ryan and his groomsmen for a rather unique first look. Green space in the city is an oasis that is always crowded with both tourists and locals, so plenty of witnesses were around to see Ryan receiving marital advice from a seemingly homeless man.
Bronx Zoo
Brenda and Ryan planned more than just a wedding – it was an adventure. Touring the city by bus, exploring the zoo and merging families from two cultures was a challenge but it was fun, to say the least. Friends and family flew in from every coast to be a part of a traditional tea ceremony and celebrate in style in the elegant Schiff Hall. Even Brenda’s 90-year-old grandmother came all the way from Taiwan. Despite my best efforts, I couldn’t get her on the dance floor, but I did get plenty of smiles and finger wags every time she caught me taking her picture.
After being together for seven years, Brenda and Ryan probably didn’t need that free marital advice. It appears they figured it out already. They fit together like a glove. They challenge one another. And together they have developed a language without words. It’s spoken by the expressions that rise from quirky grins to eyebrows and seems to be all they need to say anything at all.
