Approximately 48 hours before Luis wanted to propose to Yuriko at Castello di Amorosa in Calistoga, he called to see if I wanted to document this monumental occasion. Boy, did I ever. I love proposals. We spent at least an hour on the phone that night coming up with a solid game plan. A plan that included aerial photos with color-coordinated pathways to his ideal location to propose. He wanted to be in the vineyard, with the castle in the background. Which meant I was hiding behind a fruit tree, like a ninja wearing a lot of camera gear.
Luis has known for a while that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Yuriko. Over the past year, they have both worked really hard and tried to maintain some normalcy in their relationship despite living over an hour apart from one another. They’ve managed to travel to some romantic places and each time Luis intended to propose, some random stranger would unwittingly upstage him with their own proposal. So this time, he didn’t leave anything to chance. And it was perfect. After Yuriko said yes, we played under the sun and in the vines and these two lovebirds spent the rest of the day walking on air.
