Jenny & Marbin
Rainy Henderson Beach Resort & Spa Wedding
Destin, Florida
.
The Henderson Beach Resort and Spa was a beautiful place to hold a wedding on a very rainy afternoon. Especially considering it wasn’t what Jenny and Marbin were planning to do. In October, Hurricane Michael destroyed a large swath of the Florida Panhandle, forcing Jenny and Marbin to move venues. With everything booked just a month before the wedding, the kind folks at Big Kahunas rescheduled their Christmas party so the Castros could relocate to The Henderson. Recovery in the Panhandle has been slow, but that kind of heartwarming generosity has been spreading fast.
The relief Jenny and Marbin felt about moving forward with the wedding was palpable. Dozens of family members were flying in from Honduras so they worried all their careful planning would be wasted. And not just the year leading up to it but the ten years they waited to have their ceremony. Jenny and Marbin met young, fell deeply in love, and married without a fuss in a small civil ceremony. After a few years, they had two kids, started running a successful construction company and all the while working hard at building a strong marriage. This wedding was a celebration of the marriage they have already devoted themselves to. It was a decade in the making and yet managed to whiz by in a flash.
In the beginning, the decision to work together came as a surprise to all of us. At first, I wasn’t sure we would be a good fit. They are devout Christians and I cuss like a heretic sailor being struck by lightning. My weddings are usually boozy dance fests and theirs was as dry as the Sahara. Nearly all their guests speak primarily Spanish and my Spanglish maxes out at huevos rancheros. But when met, we instantly knew it was right. Somehow, we fit like a guante, which is Spanish for glove. I’m so grateful to have witnessed their celebration. This whole process has been a testament to their faith and it’s been wonderful to see it finally come together in the end. And I’m happy to report, that I refrained from cursing all day!
