Katie and Justin’s St George Island wedding went off without a hitch this past Saturday. Just before the ceremony, while the revelers were greeted with a champagne welcome at the house, I stood alone on the beach. It felt like the edge of the world. There wasn’t another visible soul as far as the eye could see. Just clouded blue skies, rolling waves and miles of a deserted beach. It was perfect.

In the week leading up to the wedding both Katie and Justin’s family gathered on the island to take in the sights and get to know each other better. I heard they even played a rousing game of Cards Against Humanity, which was the first clue to realizing this was a fun group. The second clue came during the ceremony when their longtime friend and officiant advised Katie to lick Justin’s finger when she struggled with the ring. And that was after he had already declared oh shit, things are about to get real. But the best moment of all happened at the reception. During a very touching and heartfelt speech, the Maid of Honor accidentally spoke the words ‘Justin’s package’ in the most hilariously Freudian slip. Classic. As funny as everything was, I know there were happy tears, too. It was beautifully emotional. But I can guarantee you that not one person in attendance will ever be able to remember this wedding without laughing. And that’s just the way it should be.
